Auto Insurance in Indiana

Financial responsibility is required in Indiana, but not always in the form of auto insurance. There are three different ways to prove financial responsibility in Indiana:

  •     Purchase liability insurance with the following amounts: $25,000 per person and $50,000  per accident for injury coverage and $10,000 property damage coverage
  •     Provide proof of self-insurance (certificate)
  •     Proof of a deposit of $40,000 in cash or securities that is filed with the Department of Insurance

It's often simpler to just purchase the required auto insurance that you need than to mess with the other options, unless you have the kind of money to do such things. However, it's always best to purchase insurance whether it is necessary or not, for your own financial safety. If you don't, you will regret it later on when you're facing lawsuits and thousands of dollars in expenses and legal fees from an accident that you didn't have enough insurance to cover.

You should also make sure that you shop around for auto insurance in Indiana. Each company will offer something different, so it's important that you check all of your options before choosing the best insurance policy for your needs. Investing the time and effort to be an informed consumer is much easier than not knowing what you're getting into with auto insurance.
