Auto Insurance
Auto insurance is required by law throughout the United States. Partly because of the requirements and partly due to the expansion of the internet, many new companies (and some older ones) are beginning to make aggressive moves to win your business. Before you sign up for a policy with a company you need to make sure that you are choosing the right auto insurance company for your needs.
Determine your needs so that you can compare like rates with like rates. There are some extras that you might want to add to your policy (like roadside service) and some that you might want to skip depending on the age and value of your car (like collision). Make a list of the different benefits that you need and also the amount of coverage and price of deductible that you would like as well.
Research the different companies. You will want to find a company that offers claim service in your area (this will likely make response times quicker) and that has an agent locally as well. Use the internet and other resources to check the customer service of the companies that you are considering. There are likely to be complaints about all insurance companies but you need to look at the type of complaints and when (or if) they have been resolved.
Talk to your friends and family to see which auto insurance company is recommended. Nothing beats personal experience for information regarding insurance companies.
Meet with the agents in the office. Find an agency that you can feel comfortable talking with and that you feel will be trustworthy. There may be times when you need to contact someone after hours or over the weekend and having a relationship with your agent can make that contact possible (and easier).
Look for an insurance company licensed in your state. Many companies are now selling policies over the internet and this has actually become an issue.
Review your other insurance companies. If you have existing policies for other purposes you might want to start with those companies. Many insurance companies offer discounts to customers who purchase multiple policies from them.
When it comes to choosing the right auto insurance you should take your time, ask around, do a little research and settle on a company that will provide you great coverage at the right price.
